Aquatics (Scouts BSA Camps) Director Job Description
Position Overview:
The Aquatics Director is responsible to the Camp Director for the coordination and operation of the aquatics programs at a Scouts BSA Resident Camp at Goshen Scout Reservation in accordance with the policies and standards of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and National Capital Area Council (NCAC). They provide leadership to approximately 5 to 10 seasonal staff members, including lifeguards and instructors, to deliver aquatics programs to units – youth members and their adult leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise, train, and motivate the waterfront staff in all aquatics activities
- Offer a quality aquatics program to include merit badges, Safe Swim Defense, Safety Afloat, free boating, and swimming
- The maintenance, inventory, security, safety, and use of all aquatic equipment.
- Set-up and takedown of all camp aquatics facilities
- Classify all campers according to their swimming ability during check-in and as needed throughout the camp period
- Oversee submission of all area advancement reports on all aquatics activities using computerized record keeping practices.
- Submit staff evaluations for aquatics staff as requested, and a written evaluation of all waterfront staff at the close of camp
- Submit a complete inventory of all on-hand aquatics materials and equipment, to include the serviceable condition of each, and recommendations for replacement of those supplies needed for next year’s summer camp operation
- Exemplify the Scout Oath and Law. Support Boy Scouts of America (BSA) policies and the Aims and Methods of Scouting. Strive to provide a program that is exciting, dynamic and appealing to today’s youth; that meets the needs of the youth and the units attending camp; and that is fun and safe.

Time Commitment:
- The onsite management of the Scouts BSA Aquatics Area will be from June 8 – July 30, 2024, based on registration.
- Attend and complete American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, a two-day training course, prior to the start of the summer season and attendance at National Camping School.
- Attend and complete National Camping School Training, a week-long training course held in Spring 2024, prior to the start of the summer season.
Relationships:

Requirements:

- Must hold or be willing to obtain an Aquatics Instructor certification from the National Camping School, a week-long training course, prior to the start of the summer season. Multiple locations/dates are available to choose from. The cost of training and travel/lodging will be covered by NCAC.
- Must hold or be willing to obtain American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers. The cost of training and travel/lodging will be covered by NCAC.
- Be physically able to act quickly in emergencies, effectively communicate, and clearly understand oral and written communications.

The Aquatics Director at Camp Ross is responsible to the Camp Ross Camp Director for the coordination and operation of the aquatics program in accordance with the policies and standards of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and National Capital Area Council (NCAC). They provide leadership to approximately 5 to 10 seasonal staff members, including lifeguards and instructors, to deliver aquatics programs to units – youth members and their adult leadership. Camp Ross Aquatics programs take place on 450-acre Lake Merriweather, and feature instructional programs on swimming, boating, and a water trampoline.

ATV Director
Position Overview:
The ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) Director is responsible to the Camp Olmsted Camp Director for the coordination and operation of the aquatics programs at a Scouts BSA Resident Camp at Goshen Scout Reservation in accordance with the policies and standards of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and National Capital Area Council (NCAC). They provide leadership to approximately 1 to 3 seasonal staff members to deliver ATV programs to units – youth members and their adult leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise, train, and motivate the ATV staff in all area activities
- Offer quality ATV programs, including the teaching and completion of the ATV Safety Institute Basic Driver Course for program participants
- The basic maintenance, inventory, security, safety, and use of all ATV program equipment
- Set-up and takedown of all camp ATV program areas
- Oversee submission of all area advancement reports of all ATV activities, including the completion
- In collaboration with the Camp and Program Directors, communicate with unit leadership to ensure participating scouts complete required paperwork prior to arriving at the Goshen Scout Reservation.
Time Commitment:
- The onsite management of the ATV Director will be from June 8 – July 30, 2024, based on registration.

Commissioner Job Description
Position Overview:
The Commissioner is responsible to the Facilities Director for the coordination and operation of facilities operations at Resident Camp at the Goshen Scout Reservation in accordance with the policies and standards of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and National Capital Area Council (NCAC).
Responsibilities:
- Assist in ensuring the grounds and facilities at Goshen Scout Reservation are welcoming to all campers and leaders by being clean, organized, and best representing National Capital Area Council and Boy Scouts of America.
- Work with the Facilities Director to identify items that require the attention of the Goshen Scout Reservation Ranger Staff.
- Work with the Facilities Director to identify service projects in camp that are able to be completed by units and/or individually skilled adults and promote them to those in camp.
- Interact with Scouts, leaders, and staff members to identify areas that require attention to maintain the delivery of quality programming.
- Complete daily Campsite Inspections for units and assist in selection and approval of Camp Awards, such as the “Camp Adventure Award” and “Honor Oar.”
- Provide guidance and supervision to units as they participate in conservation and camp service projects.
- Be knowledgeable of and assist in the enforcement of all procedures related to health and safety, council, and national policies, use of equipment, and operation of facilities.

Communications and Marketing Officer Job Desciption
Position Overview
The Communications and Marketing Officer is responsible to the Camping Specialist and often works in coordination with the Retail Director and retail team.
Responsibilities:
- Collect and organize photographs and video footage at the various camps for camp promotional materials.
- Make frequent social media posts promoting all camps on the Goshen Scout Reservation social media platforms.
- Assist the Camping Specialist, Reservation Director, and Camp Directors with customer service and camp communication. Answer basic questions primarily via email for unit leaders, parents, and campers.
- Staff shifts at the Memorial Trading Post under the direction of the Retail Director.
- Assist with administrative and operational responsibilities, including but not limited to printing and photocopy services, support tasks and errands on and off camp property, camp staff onboarding, and office supply management.
- Assist in the set-up and teardown of camp facilities.
- Other duties as assigned.

Relationships:
The Communications and Marketing Officer reports to the Camping Specialist and will work collaboratively with the internal and external individuals and groups including, but not limited to, the NCAC Camping Department; the NCAC Marketing Department; the administrative, retail, and medical personnel at Camp Post; Camp Directors at the Goshen Scout Reservation camps; scout volunteers; and parents.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to register as a member of the BSA and submit to a background check. Must complete all Youth Protection Training courses and adhere to incident reporting guidelines.
- Must have a working vehicle and have a valid driver’s license. Fuel will be provided for camp required usage of vehicle.
- Must have a phone or camera that takes pictures of a reasonable quality.
- The position requires living onsite for the duration of the summer camping season. Housing is provided in the form of a shared cabin. Most meals are provided during the duration of the summer camp.

Position Overview:
The Dishwasher is responsible to the Kitchen/Commissary Manager and works closely with Kitchen Staff to ensure a quality dining experience.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the cleanliness of the kitchen, equipment, and serving areas.

Provisional Scoutmaster Job Description
Position Overview:
The Provisional Scoutmaster leads a provisional unit and acts as a Scoutmaster for scouts who are attending camp without their home unit. The Provisional Scoutmaster motivates these scouts to reach their camp goals and advocates for their needs. The Provisional Scoutmaster facilitates the “troop based program” while scouts are in their campsite and assists them in all aspects of their camp experience. Position Overview:
The Reservation Chaplain is responsible to the Assistant Reservation Director for the coordination of chapel services and counseling needs of all camp participants and staff.
Responsibilities:
- In cooperation with the Assistant Reservation Director and Camp Directors, work to develop a “Worship Services” plan that meets the religious objectives of the faith and individual needs of guests at Goshen Scout Reservation camps that are within the generally recognized parameters and capabilities of Goshen Scout Reservation and the Boy Scouts of America.
- Coordinate with Camp Staff to offer interfaith worship services as the schedule permits. Assist in planning and be prepared to sometimes lead.
- Share information about the Duty to God program as sponsored at the Goshen Scout Reservation.
- Be present and work in cooperation with the Health Lodge Director and staff, when necessary, for emergencies and spiritual counseling relating to the entire camp community, including campers and staff.
- Assist with administrative and operational responsibilities, including assistance in completion of incident reports.
- Act as a roving public relations ambassador for the Goshen Scout Reservation and National Capital Area Council and provide customer feedback to camp leadership.
- In a medical emergency, the Chaplain may be called upon to accompany an injured camper or staff member to the hospital.

- Assist the Camp Director in camp staff hiring.
- Assist the Camp Director in staff and program training.
- Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
Time Commitment:

- The onsite management of the Lenhok’sin High Adventure Trek Program will be from June 8 – July 30, 2024, based on registration.
- Attend and complete National Camping School Training, a week-long training course held in Spring 2024, prior to the start of the summer season.
Relationships:
The Trek Director reports to the Camp Director and will work collaboratively with individuals and groups including, but not limited to, the camp administration, retail staff, medical personnel at Camp Post, food service and kitchen staff, Camp Staff, scout volunteers, and parents.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be able to register as a member of the BSA and submit to a background check. Must complete all Youth Protection Training courses and adhere to incident reporting guidelines.
- Must hold or be willing to obtain a Trek Director certification from the National Camping School, a week-long training course, prior to the start of the summer season. Multiple locations/dates are available to choose from. The cost of training and travel/lodging will be covered by NCAC.
- Must hold or be willing to obtain Wilderness First Aid certification from a BSA approved vendor, prior to the start of the summer season.
- Be physically able to act quickly in emergencies, effectively communicate, and clearly understand oral and written communications.
- Willing to complete a variety of other BSA trainings (included but not limited to Youth Protection Training and Weather Hazards).
Benefits:
The employee will be paid a seasonal salary starting at $400.00 per week for the duration of the summer season. All room and board that is provided is in addition to this salary. Compensation includes all pre-season preparation and post season closing reports, including all training that may be necessary for the successful execution of the position. This position is exempt from the minimum wage-maximum hours provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
